Mike Pratt is interested in an expanded view towards painting, combining unconventional materials with a sensibility towards describing a certain moment. These new series of works are the result of a year and a half’s production in the studio. At the beginning the majority of the works started as forms based on musical instruments but over time re-working and change has evolved them into abstractions within this theme. Pratt wanted certain works to have empty spaces inside that where semi visible to suggest a way of making sound or just a break in their structure: 'I like the idea of the works rehearsing together, playing covers and coming up with songs that describe their feelings. At least now their roles are undefined and ambiguous and what’s left is a drone that echo’s, repeating itself to the neighbours.'
