    Laura Lancaster:

    Works on Paper

  •

This online presentation focuses on Laura Lancaster's works on paper and runs alongside the artist's solo exhibition, Closer and Further Away, which is on view at our 40 Margaret Street space in London.

Bringing together a selection of Lancaster's recent drawings, this online exhibition highlights the importance of this medium within the artist's practice and the relationship between her drawings and paintings.

"Lancaster draws the photograph, in part or whole, not to describe it but to distil the feeling that she gets on viewing it. Then she paints from the drawing of the photograph. And then again she paints from the painting of the drawing of the photograph. With each iteration, the edge that separates one version from the next is breached."

"The subject matter of the works on paper and the painting in Closer and Further Away is very much concentrated on the female form and particular situations of female figures which are classical in their nature and relate to cinematic moments or art history. I am interested in how these everyday situation can become poetic  and relate to something bigger"
