  • Schmaltz

    Schmaltz

    Guimarães, Vienna 10 Nov 2018 - 10 Jan 2019
    Schmalz is juicy. Schmalz is elastic. Schmalz is sexual. Schmalz is out of tune; Schmalz is non-binary; Schmalz has no gender, no race, no religion, no political party, no football club; Schmalz has no agenda; Schmalz is bio, vegan, paleo, Atkins, lactose and gluten intolerant. Schmalz does Love/Hate exceedingly well. Schmalz makes you feel schmalzy.
    A schmalzy artwork cannot be translated into words. Schmalz is an excuse. Schmalz is festive, Dionysian;
    Schmalz is crusty and juicy, and this can be a physical or conceptual state.
    Schmalz doesn’t need other titles. Being schmalzy defies any other sort of classification. Schmalz in non-bourgeois; Schmalz is anti - Anti-Art. Schmalz is Schmaltz. Schmalz is anti-schmalz. Schmalz is nice to you and your friends. Schmalz is a space for non-negotiable differences; a manifestation of human-grain that saves us from being tabula rasa. Schmalz is typing on your phone with fat fingers.
    Schmaltz is a show built with materials that do not need affiliations and have an elastic sense of their own materiality.

    GLI ANNI 80. Il trionfo della pittura. Da Schifano a Basquiat

    Serrone di Villa Reale ed Arengario, Monza, Italy 17 Oct 2009 - 14 Feb 2010
    Curata da Marco Meneguzzo, promossa dal Comune di Monza, col patrocinio della Provincia di Monza e Brianza, l’iniziativa presenterà i lavori, dei suoi più importanti protagonisti italiani e internazionali, da Schifano a Ontani, da Schnabel ad Haring, da Paladino a Lupertz, da Barcelò a Basquiat, da Disler a Chia, a molti altri ancora.
    Il percorso espositivo analizzerà i principali movimenti di quel periodo e le più conosciute individualità, dalla Transavanguardia italiana ai Nuovi Selvaggi tedeschi, dai graffitisti statunitensi alla Young British Sculpture, dagli Anacronisti ancora italiani alla Figuration Libre francese: circa cinquanta artisti - da Mario Schifano a Mimmo Paladino, Da Francesco Clemente a Luigi Ontani, da Georg Baselitz a Markus Lupertz, da Anselm Kiefer a Helmut Middendorf, da Keith Haring a Jean Michel Basquiat, da Peter Halley a Julian Schnabel, da Miqurel Barcelò a Anish Kapoor a Tony Cragg - rappresenteranno infatti quel discusso periodo attraverso quell'esplosione di colore e di vitalità che furono la pittura e la scultura di quegli anni, che per alcuni simboleggia il riflusso edonistico di quel decennio, per altri il ritorno in forze dell'espressività più autentica e immediata.
